There`s a new leader of the Arkansas
Republican Party today as the troubled state GOP`s game of
leadership musical chairs continues.
Party executive director Marie Holder says the state GOP rules
committee has met today and determined that Second Vice Chairman
Reta Hamilton is the acting director, and NOT First Vice Chairman
Gunner DeLay.
DeLay took over as acting chairman when Marty Ryall resigned a
month ago amid disclosure that the state GOP is more than 300
thousand dollars in debt.
Hamilton took over when DeLay resigned Saturday to clear the way
for Lieutenant Governor Winthrop Rockefeller to be elected as state
party chairman next week.
DeLay declared yesterday that he was back in charge --a day
after Hamilton disbanded a subcommittee looking into the party`s
financial problems and said she would appoint a new panel to audit
the party`s finances.
Holder says the state GOP rules committee met by conference call
today and agreed that Hamilton is in charge and that the edict she
issued is STILL in force.
