Dr. Sam Peebles and his wife Suzanne told their story to reporters in Nashville city hall today. Their wounds were still visible and they held hands while they shared their story. The two gave Scott James Eizember a ride while they were returning home from a funeral in Fort Smith. They did not know Eizember was wanted for a double homicide in Oklahoma. "Early on he made a statement, I`m already gonna be on death row in Oklahoma. I wouldn`t hesitate to kill you." Dr. Peebles said. Eizember allegedly pulled a gun on the two when they pulled over for gas. They continued driving to Texarkana. At the next stop, Dr. Peebles was able to reach for his wife`s gun which she kept in the car. "I had decided the next opportunity I got I was going to shoot him. I had a seatbelt on and there was no way I could reach around and shoot him cause then he would have shot me." The next time they pulled over, Dr. Peebles began firing at Eizember. He fired 8 shots, but it only injured Eizember. Then a struggle began. "Then I was on the ground and his pistol is pointed at my stomach, so I grabbed it and it amazed me how much strength I had cause I was able to turn it around away from me. Then all of the sudden he`s beating me in the back of the head. He`s pistol whipping me. On the third blow, I acted like I was out. I said Lord he`s going to shoot me now. I`m coming home. And Suzanne ran over and said don`t kill him, don`t kill him." Eizember allegedly began beating Mrs. Peebles. Then he fled. The couple later learned that Eizember`s gun didn`t work. Eizember is being treated for his injuries and then will be held on murder charges in Oklahoma. The Peebles are back home in Nashville.
