Small Communities May Be Able To Save Their Revenue Offices

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Small communities around the state can keep revenue offices now slated to close next month -- IF they`re willing to pay the price. That`s the word today from state finance director Richard Weiss, who says communities can keep their revenue offices from closing December First if they`re willing to pay the rent, utilities and janitorial bills locally. Weiss says the state would pay for salaries, supplies and computer lines. Thirty-eight local revenue offices are slated to close around the state in a move the state finance office says will save about six hundred thousand dollars annually. Some rural legislators say the savings would NOT be worth the inconvenience that closing the offices would impose on taxpayers.
