Attorney General Rejects Constitutional Amendment Dealing With Reduction Of Taxes

Attorney General Mike Beebe`s office
rejected the wording of a proposed constitutional amendment that
would do away with a number of taxes.
The measure was by Oscar Stilley, a Fort Smith lawyer who has
drawn the ire of judges from the state Supreme Court on down for
his persistent court filings. Stilley`s amendment would do away
with personal property taxes, income taxes and taxes on used goods.
Beebe says the proposal rejected yesterday contained numerous
ambiguities and was misleading.
Stilley can submit a rewritten version to Beebe`s office and the
measure could still be approved for possible inclusion on the
ballot. If that happens, Stilley would have until July 2nd to collect the 80,570 signatures of registered voters needed
to get a constitutional amendment on the ballot.
