Police Chief Arrested for Sex Assault

Shannon Hills` police chief John Brown Junior has posted a 10 thousand dollar bond on one count of sex assault. He was picked up at city hall early Monday afternoon. The affidavit filed against Brown says his accuser is his 15 year old niece. The girl, who is the daughter of his wife`s brother, claims the chief had a history of touching her inappropriately during past overnight visits to his home. The charge stems from an alleged incident last July. The teen says she woke up in pain and discovered Brown penetrating her with his finger. While being booked at the Saline County Jail, the chief maintained his innocence. "Most everybody in Shannon Hills knows me and they know I wouldn`t do anything like this," said Brown. Brown`s wife Karen stands by him. She believes her niece is making up this story of abuse. While the assault described in the affidavit allegedly happened in July, the teen`s parents didn`t file a complaint about it until August. They were out of state on a house-hunting trip which is why their daughter was staying with the Browns. The girl says she didn`t say anything earlier because she is very afraid of her uncle. Brown will be back in court Wednesday to make a plea.
