Updated: January 7, 2009
Police say a Jonesboro woman was fatally shot by her estranged husband today and a short while later her husband apparently shot himself in his car as officers surrounded it. Sergeant Doug Formon says after the woman was shot, her assailant fled the scene. Identities were NOT immediately released. A Jonesboro television station reported that witnesses said a man approached a woman on the parking lot of the Union Planters main bank building and shot her three times with a shotgun. Police were involved a short time later in a standoff with the suspect on the parking lot of a tire and auto service store on the city`s east site. Witnesses said that, as police surrounded his vehicle and demanded his surrender, the man turned on his car dome light, put a shotgun to his chest and committed suicide. Posted by Mike Hellgren
