A.C.L.U. Angry About Treatment Of Bush Protesters

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The Arkansas chapter of the A-C-L-U is criticizing the Secret Service for keeping protesters out of sight during President Bush`s visit to the state. The arrangement was similar to how protesters have been handled during previous administrations, including President Clinton`s. In a written statement, the A-C-L-U denounced the decision to clear anti-Bush protesters from the street across from the Statehouse Convention Center where Bush spoke yesterday while allowing Bush supporters up close. But a former advance team member for Clinton during that administration says the arrangement was similar to how the Secret Service usually handles protests at presidential events. In September, the A-C-L-U sued in federal court in Pennsylvania on behalf of four advocacy organizations that claimed that the Secret Service forced them into "protest zones."
