Updated: January 7, 2009
Appliance maker Whirlpool says it expects to shift some refrigerator production from a plant at Fort Smith to a new facility being built in Mexico. The Michigan-based company says it plans additional investments in its operations in Mexico. A new facility is expected to produce Whirlpool`s next generation of side-by-side refrigerators for Mexico`s domestic and export markets in 2005. A company statement says Whirlpool expects that some models currently made at Fort Smith will be produced at the new facility -- but details will NOT be finalized until early 2005. The company also says it is nearing completion of about 100 million dollars in investments at its U-S production facilities. Posted by Mike Hellgren
