North Little Rock leaders are looking
across the Arkansas River while considering a waterfront
improvement plan of their own.
Mayor Patrick Hays suggests the city hire the consulting group
that helped plan the River Market district in Little Rock.
MRA International of Columbia, Maryland, would be asked to
develop a master plan for the north bank of the Arkansas River.
Hays says the North Little Rock development would be anchored
across the Arkansas River from the Bill Clinton presidential
library, which is being built just downriver from the Little Rock
River Market.
North Little Rock paid $60,000 dollars in 2001 for a
riverfront market study on the feasibility of an aquarium
development with a hotel, restaurants and stores in the area across
the river from the Clinton library. No one bought into the idea.
