The unemployment rate in Arkansas climbed to six-point-two percent for October. That exceeds the national
average of six percent. The Arkansas rate is the state`s highest since June 1993, when it was six-point-three percent.
The increase in unemployed workers coincides with a decrease in tax collections for October, indicating that a modest national economic recovery has not yet reached Arkansas.
State officials say the increase of two-tenths of a percentage point from September was caused by the loss of 600 jobs in combination with an increase in the number of people seeking work.
