A Pine Bluff Alderman is sponsoring an ordinance to regulate home day care centers. Derwood Smith, 3rd Ward Alderman, says smaller day care center don`t play by the same rules as their larger counterparts. Under the proposed ordinance, home daycares would provide 200 square feet of space per child and would only be allowed to care for five children at a time. Home-based daycares, would also have to pay the city $6 per child, just like larger daycares. "They don`t abide by all the rules and regulations," Smith says. "The Fire Departments and Health Departments --everybody checks they and home daycares, do not do that." The City Council will discuss the measure at least twice before it comes to a vote.
