Pine Bluff residents could soon be asked to vote on a half-cent tax to stem the loss of manpower in the City`s police and fire departments, KARK 4 News has learned.
The "Public Safety Tax" public is based on a similar measure which passed in Hot Springs and Texarkana.
If passed, the tax could raise about $3 Million a year. That money would be used strictly for the police and fire departments, officials said.
"We`re confident that the people of Pine Bluff Would be more willing to pass a tax with a specific agenda in mind," said Bill Wiegand, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
The tax has no sunset clause and if passed, would become permanent.
