Southwest Airlines To Close Little Rock Reservation Center

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Southwest Airlines is closing its reservation centers in Little Rock and two other cities. The Little Rock closure will cost the city 700 jobs. The other cities are Dallas and Salt Lake City. All told, 19-hundred Southwest employees are affected. The Dallas-based airline says workers will be able to relocate to other centers. The three centers are to close February 28th. Southwest says it is consolidating its nine call centers into six due to declining call volume as more people used other means -- such as the Internet -- for booking travel on Southwest. The airline says employees will be able to transfer to reservation centers in Albuquerque, Chicago, Houston, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, and San Antonio. Southwest chief executive says the decision was a difficult one but provides workers who want to continue their careers with the airline.
