State Attorney General Gives Go-Ahead For Execution

Updated: January 7, 2009
The state`s attorney general has told Governor Huckabee that he can proceed with the execution of a man who claims that he is forcibly given drugs that keep him sane enough to be put to death. The notice by Attorney General Mike Beebe raises the possibility of another multiple execution in Arkansas, this one in the holiday season. Another death row inmate was cleared for execution last week. Charles Singleton lost a U-S Supreme Court appeal in October. Huckabee`s office says Beebe delivered a letter to Huckabee yesterday certifying that there are no other obstacles to Singleton`s execution. Thursday, Beebe certified Karl Roberts` case as complete. Under Huckabee`s policy, the governor will take 10 days to review the inmates` cases and then set an execution date for 40 to 60 days later.
