Condemned child killer Damien Echols has
lost another round in his bid to avoid execution.
The Arkansas Supreme Court today rejected Echols` arguments that
he deserves a new trial because the lawyers who represented him
were ineffective. In a unanimous decision, the court ruled that
Echols former lawyer, Val Price of Jonesboro, did not have a
conflict of interest. Price allowed a film crew from HBO to
record a documentary featuring interviews from Echols during his
trial in the deaths of three West Memphis boys.
The court said Echols did not show any adverse effect that
resulted from a contract that Echols agreed to as an 18-year-old.
The court said that Echols` lawyers acted in Echols` interests
and that his defense was aided, not impeded, by the film contract.
