Investigation Into Voting Problems In Pulaski County

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A lawyer with the civil rights division in the federal Justice Department met today with a Pulaski County election official and the county attorney. They discussed problems with the county`s voter-registration database. Fact-finding meetings with county and state officials are planned for today and tomorrow, following widespread confusion in the county`s November election. A county grand jury report in the spring that said the voter rolls were inaccurate. Officials wouldn`t comment on what was said at today`s meeting. The special grand jury report concluded that the voter rolls were only 50 percent accurate, and contained the names of felons, murder victims, minors, aliens and people with incomplete or unconfirmed residential addresses. The problems culminated in last November`s election, when thousands of people had to wait in long lines at polls and hundreds of ballots were contested for incomplete information.
