Republican Party Chief Under Fire

Updated: January 7, 2009
In the wake of a Federal Election Commission investigation of state Republican Party records, party chairman Marty Ryall has been given the option of resigning or working without pay. Ryall, who took top positions with the party after the period under investigation, wouldn`t comment today on why Republican leaders gave him the option to quit or work without a salary. He said he would announce his decision tomorrow and would do what was best for the party. The party`s steering committee plans to meet tomorrow and committee member Peggy Jeffries of Fort Smith says she expects the panel will call for an independent audit of the party records.
