UALR To Look At Crosswalk Safety

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A panel recently established at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock will examine the safety of crosswalks on campus, weeks after an education professor was struck by a pickup and killed. The faculty-student panel, called the Committee on Pedestrian Safety, will consider the construction of a pedestrian bridge and warning lights before pedestrians reach streets. 46-year-old Professor Rhonda Lewis had finished her night class October 2nd and was crossing South University Avenue at 32nd Street when a pickup hit her, dragging her about 180 feet. The driver of the pickup, 21-year-old Timothy A. Simpson, has not yet been charged, but the case remains open.
