Domestic Violence Awareness More than Just Women

Updated: January 7, 2009
It`s a problem affecting almost four million women every year...and in some cases, domestic violence can lead to death. But the victims aren`t the only ones who need help. The Little Rock District Courts run a Domestic Violence Intervention Program for people who may have committed abuse. By talking about control issues, stress, and their emotions in class the offenders say the can learn lessons from each other. "Everybody has different scenarios and how they work their problems out. You can take a piece out of each one of them and apply it to yourself and you`ll change," said one participant who asked not to be identified. They can also learn about themselves, and what makes them angry or violent. "I don`t like it when they lie to me and that makes me mad. I walk off. I go cool off and I think about the problem," said another participant, who also asked not to be identified. The program has about 167 enrollees, about 20% are women.
