Mexico Chiquito Gets Last Chance with Health Department

A North Little Rock restaurant is getting another chance to clean up its act or be shut down. The Arkansas Department of Health held a hearing Thursday morning for Mexico Chiquit in Lakewood Village. The department cited several critical violations that had been repeatedly cited but never corrected, problems like food temperatures being higher than regulated, insects in the food strorage room and a roof leak in the kitchen. "All the times ya`ll continue to write us up, we have spent money to fix them, but no longer, we`re just gonna buy new equipment," Dan Jayroe, the district manager for Mexico Chiquito, told the sub-committee members. "A lot of these things were housekeeping in nature, such as the ceiling, the floors needing repair, but when you let these things go, then it builds up to crescendo," said Raymond Heaggans, AR Department of Health. Mexico Chiquito management says they are already in the process of fixing the problems. The Board of Health subcommittee recommended a five-thousand dollar penalty and a series of inspections. The rest of the board will hear those recommendations next week.
