Ghettopoly: Monopoly`s Controversial Younger Cousin

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
From a distance, it looks like any other board game, but look closer and you can see where the controversy comes in. In Ghettopoly, the gamepieces are an uzi, a basketball and a cannabis leaf. Players travel from a crackhouse to a liquor store. "It`s damaging not only to a group, but to the work we`re trying to do," says Carlette Henderson, who heads up the Little Rock Racial and Cultural Diversity Commission. The game`s creator, David Chang, sees things differently and says critics just need to lighten up. "It`s a game poking fun of stereotypes," he says, "to show people how silly stereotyping is." Silly or not, ghettopoly is selling fast. David Chang says he plans to keep selling-- and expanding. His next game ventures? Thugopoly, Hoodopoly and Redneckopoly.
