Officials of the White River National Wildlife Refuge say they hope a new two million dollar visitor center will attract plain old tourists -- not just hunters and anglers. The center was dedicated yesterday at the Arkansas County town of Saint Charles. A crowd of 300 people got to see exhibits that highlight opportunities beyond hunting and fishing on the 16-thousand-acre refuge. Refuge manager Larry Mallard says there`s lots of wildlife photography, canoeing and bird watching to be done along the refuge`s 92 river miles and 300 lakes. He said the new building, which also houses offices, means the refuge can now provide services to the public that it couldn`t before. Mallard said staff at the refuge can now educate the public about the value of environmental preservation and wildlife. Posted by Mike Hellgren
