Monster Truck Draw in Fan At State Fair

Fans flocked to the State Fair to see their favorite Monster Trucks take center stage. With names ranging from "Cyborg," to "Hulkster," these 10,000-lbs vehicles were a big hit. "I like them because they`re big and strong and tall and have four-wheel drive," says 8-year old Jonathan Prior. They can also be dangerous. Drivers say they have to wear fire suits and have a fire safety system in place. Workers are also on hand with remote control devices to shut down the trucks at any time. Jack Koberna, a 22-year veteran of the monster truck show, says the sport has evolved over the years. "When we first started, we were just climbing over cars," Kobena says. "Windows would break and people would love it." But these days, he says it`s "full-fledged racing." But the appetite for the destruction of cars in the ring doesn`t seem to be waning. "Monster Trucks are #1," says Prior.
