Educators and legislators intend to offer their own education reform plans to compete with the revamped proposal Governor Huckabee unveiled this week.
Groups involved in the education debate remain uncertain whether a consensus can be reached before a possible December special legislative session. Some say a lot will depend on how much Huckabee is willing to compromise on his revamped reform plan.
Charles Knox, spokesman for the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators, says the new plan looks a lot like one that failed during the regular session.
Knox says his organization is working to develop its own education reform proposal based on an efficiency standard that school districts must meet. The Arkansas Rural Educators
Association plans to offer another proposal. And two legislators
who opposed Huckabee`s plan drafted their own revised plan.
