Old College Dorm Gives New Arkansas Tech Students a Headache

Some students call it "Nasty Massey." A recent tour through Arkansas Tech`s Massey Hall explains the nickname.
Paint is peeling, showers are leaking and walls are rusting. Freshman Kyle Bowmaster says he`s never seen anything quite like it. "I was kind of like, did I really need to pay $935 [semester`s room and board] for this?" he asks.
Arkansas Tech spokesperson says she has the answer to questions like Bowmaster`s: she says the school is growing and trying to keep up with that growth with new housing. At the same time, she admits, it can be a struggle to take care of all of the maintenance needs at older dorms like Massey.
When it comes to housing, Arkansas Tech students have an incentive to keep up their grades. Students with a 3.0 or higher GPA get first dibs on dorms.
