Former Governor Sid McMath is being remembered in a special way. A library will be built in his honor. The new building will stand next to the Parkview High School on John Barrow Road. A groundbreaking, scheduled for Thursday, was canceled. But a small ceremony was held inside the school. Betty McMath, widow of the former Governor, attended the ceremony and cut a ribbon in her husbands honor. She says he knew of the library and toured the site before he passed away. "The best thing was that it was going to be in connection with a real school", she says. "And so the combination of library and school was terribly important to him." McMath passed away Saturday at the age of 91. The family says he planned to attend Thursdays ceremony. The new library will cost about $2 million to build.
