Benton Fire Marshal Warns Fast-Growing Community at Risk

Hurricane Lake Estates is booming, but Benton Fire Marshal Bruce Armstrong warns the big houses in the area could be hiding a big problem. The nearest fire station to the area is 3.5 miles away-- or about seven minutes (3 minutes more than the desired response time). Mayor Rick Holland says he wants to bring response time down but says the city doesn`t have the money to staff a new station. Fire crews feel recent staffing cuts by the city will make expanding services even harder to achieve.
