Supreme Court Ruling Brings Arkansas Inmate Closer to Execution

Charles Singleton, the longest-serving death row inmate in Arkansas history, is one step closer to dying at the hands of the state. This week, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his attorney`s appeal. Jeff Rosenzweig, Singleton`s attorney, argues his client`s mental state (Singleton is schizophrenic) raises serious questions about his sanity and whether his client should be executed. Singleton`s sister says she hopes the fight continues, but that she doesn`t expect her brother to live much longer. Singleton`s attorney says the only challenge, at this point, would be to delay the execution-- not overturn it altogether. The final say on Singleton`s status rests with Governor Huckabee, who says Singleton`s case, like all death row cases, will be reviewed in detail before any decisions are made.
