Governor Targets Education

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Governor Huckabee is circulating a draft education reform plan that would make high schools with less than 425 students possible targets for consolidation. A draft of either legislation or an initiated act has been passed among some legislators for their input since late last week. Huckabee discussed the new plan with the heads of the Senate and House education committees this afternoon, but details of the meeting and the proposed plan were NOT released. Senator Jim Argue, who heads the Senate Education Committee, sponsored Huckabee`s education-reform legislation in the 2003 regular session. He says the governor is fine-tuning his plan. Representative Calvin Johnson, who is chairman of the House Education Committee, offered no specifics but says he found the governor`s proposal an effort at compromise. Posted by Mike Hellgren
