Retired General Wesley Clark is working
to make his case to Democratic activists in Iowa.
Monday night, he answered questions on issues ranging from health care
to trade to bolstering a sagging economy while speaking to 250
party activists.
He was challenged directly on his allegiance, asked if he was
"a Republican disguised as a Democrat." Clark says beliefs are
more important than how long a candidate has been in the party.
Clark argued the qualities he brings to the race, such as being
open to both parties, are precisely what`s needed if Democrats want
to win back the White House.
Clark ignored his Democratic rivals, reserving any fire for the
Bush administration, arguing it has failed the nation both on
foreign policy and setting a domestic agenda for the country.
While Clark has been in the race for only three weeks and has
pleaded for time in developing details of many policies, he dealt
knowledgeably -- if broadly -- on a long list of issues.
