A Jonesboro police officer is charged with taking a bribe from a drug dealer and is now fired from the force. Patrolman Bobby Engle was fired Friday night, just minutes after he appeared before a circuit judge on the charge. An affidavit shows investigators said Engle admitted he received money in exchange for information about police drug investigations. He turned over 120 dollars that investigators had provided an informant Wednesday to give to Engle. Officers had recorded the meeting on the parking lot of a
restaurant. The inquiry began after an informant told police that 30 year old Engle was allegedly taking payoffs. The affidavit shows Engle admitting to receiving $550 from the informant.
Engle is currently free on a $5,000 bond. If convicted, Engle faces up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
