Arkansas Soldier Laid to Rest

A hero was laid to rest Sunday afternoon in White County. Army Master Sergeant Kevin Morehead of Little Rock, 34, was killed in an early morning raid on enemy forces in Iraq on September 12. A native of Arkansas and graduate of Central High School, Morehead is remembered by family and fellow soldiers as one of the bravest there is. "He wanted to do something for his country since the 1st day he joined the Army. Every step of the way, seemed to be a day leading to this day, where we could honor him like this," said a member of his unit, the 5th Special Forces Group, Airborne. During his time of duty, he also served in Afghanistan, where he was one of a few soldiers who laid a piece of the World Trade Center debris in an Afghani battlefield. His numerous decorations include the Silver Star, Bronze Star with Valor, and the Purple Heart. "My son was doing what he wanted to do. He was good at it and wouldn`t have had it any other way," said his father, James Morehead, of Benton. Fellow soldiers describe him as being brave, comical and perfect for Special Forces. Sgt. Morehead is survived by his wife, sister, and parents. He is buried at Fredonia Cemetery in White County.
