The Jefferson County prosecutor says two employees of the Pine Bluff Convention Center have been charged with forging 225 checks to steal at least 25-hundred dollars. Prosecutor Stevan Dalrymple said today that 37-year-old Steven Barnett and 34-year-old Aurora Smith, both of Pine Bluff, will turn themselves in for arrest. They were charged with felony theft of property, forgery and conspiracy to commit forgery and with misdemeanor falsifying business records and conspiracy to falsify those records. Jefferson County Circuit Judge Fred D. Harris the Third set bond at ten-thousand dollars for each defendant. The judge set a tentative court date for October First. Dalrymple said convention center staff notified him of the alleged check-forgery scheme June 27th, and the Pine Bluff Police Department began an investigation. Posted by Mike Hellgren
