State Parks And Tourism Unveils New Marketing Plan

Updated: January 7, 2009
The Department of Parks and Tourism is unveiling a new global marketing plan today in hopes of overcoming misperceptions about the state before major events planned for next year. Department director Richard Davies says tourist focus groups tend to think there`s nothing to do in Arkansas, but that`s because most of them have never seen the state`s natural wonders. But Arkansas will have built-in urban tourist draws in the next two or three years with the opening of the Clinton Presidential Library and an urban streetcar loop in November 2004, Heifer International`s global village a year later and a maritime museum currently planned for the North Little Rock riverfront. These events will be sold as "Arkansas Globecoming" events using 150-thousand dollars provided last spring by the state Parks and Tourism Commission and the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau.
