Fayetteville Bans Smoking

Next year, you probably won`t be able to light up after a meal at a restaurant in Fayetteville. The Fayetteville City Council on Tuesday approved a smoking ban in most public buildings, including restaurants. The aldermen declined to send the issue to residents for a vote. But the issue isn`t over. Free Choice Fayetteville, a group opposed to the ban, says it plans to gather signatures to put a repeal of the ordinance to the voters. If the ordinance stands, it will go into effect February First. The ordinance bans smoking in restaurants, pool halls, government buildings and other public places. Bars would be exempt from the smoking ban. Posted by Mike Hellgren
