State National Guard Falls Behind In Recruiting

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The Arkansas National Guard is looking for more than a few good men and women. The Arkansas Army National Guard has about 1,000 vacancies, and the Air National Guard has more than 100 jobs. The vacancies account for less than ten percent of the Arkansas National Guard`s total strength. Recruiting and retention of the volunteer force fluctuates month to month. Three months ago, the National Guard Bureau in Washington D.C., was behind in its recruiting goals, but has caught up. About 1,200 soldiers in the Army Guard are mobilized for active duty. So, some soldiers are shifting among units. Most of the openings are in the 39th Infantry Brigade, the state`s largest guard unit with more than 3,400 soldiers. The unit has several hundred vacancies. Openings within the Air National Guard include slots related to C-130 cargo planes, plus intelligence, security and mechanics.
