A Lonoke County Sheriff`s Deputy is expected to make a full recovery after being shot early Thursday morning.
Deputy Vernon Williams was shot at several times when he made a traffic stop at 67/167 and Highway 5.
Williams fired back several times, killing the suspect, 22-year old Gregory J. Isobaker, Jr.
The Arkansas State Police Department is investigating how Williams and Isobaker got into the struggle that led to the shooting.
Williams` bullet-proof vest stopped two bullets, saving his life.
His fellow deputy, David Bufford, says that just reminds him why he wears his bullet-proof vest so faithfully.
"It makes me that much surer I`ll not leave home without it," Deputy Bufford said.
He adds that the vest can be hot and uncomfortable to wear, but that`s a small price to pay if he is hit by a speeding bullet.
"It still hurts, hopefully, it keeps the bullet from going inside you, but you`re gonna get bruised," he said.
No vest is 100% bullet-proof, but they are an added protection, Bufford said.
The can cost between a couple hundred and one-thousand dollars.
