breaking news
Ironton Baptist Church had a lot to sing about sunday. the congregation celebrated its 110 anniversary of worship in the capital city. Lee Pool has been a part of the church for almost 20 years. "God`s work has to be done and that`s what we`re here for to carry on God`s work," says Pool.
But as the congregration rejoiced in its century old milestone, Pastor Sidney Thompson couldnt help, but reflect over the legal wrangling in the Alabama Supreme Court.
"I think it`s nice to see a politician that`s working to take a stand for the lord and for what`s right," says Thompson."
An online poll conducted by News Four Arkansas shows a wide margin of support for Chief Justice Ray Moore. Judge Moore was recently suspended for refusing to remove this structure of The 10 Commandments from the court. Thompson says the law was based on those principles.
He believes removing the structure could be a sign of a larger issue.
"Look at what happened in the school since we took God out of the schools, " he says." What`s going to happen to the legal system if we take God out of the law?
Officials say it`s likely the monument will be moved within a week. Thompson says there`s a greater lesson to be learned.
"There`s a difference on opinions and convictions. Everyone has an opinion, but we live by our convictions," he says.
