Arkansas Death Row Moves to New Location

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The state`s death row inmates are adjusting to new living quarters. The Department of Correction moved the prisoners from the maximum security unit at Tucker to a super maximum security area at Varner early Friday morning. Department of Correction officials say the move is an effort to ease overcrowding. Critics of the move say they fear the increased isolation could cause problems. Attorney Craig Lambert currently represents seven death row inmates. "It was totally unnecessary," says Lambert. "There weren`t any particular problems at death row at Tucker Max that needed to be addressed in such a radical manner." There are currently 41 men living on death row. They`d been housed at Tucker since the mid-1980s. Story filed by: Lyndall Stout
