Hot Springs Voters Go To The Polls Tuesday

Hot Springs voters next week will consider paying higher taxes. The money would build a park on Lake Catherine that has everything from ball fields to trout fishing. The vote Tuesday is on a three-eighths cent temporary sales tax increase. Park officials say the money would cover a new $18 million park and help renovate existing parks. It would expire after seven years. The plan includes buying and developing the 482-acre Humphrey Dairy property. The land would be turned into a sports complex with hills and creeks for trails, nature study, wildlife areas and rainbow trout fishing. Supporters say the project could be an economic development tool for the area, luring sports tournaments, and the hotel rooms and restaurant meals that come with them.
