Football Coaches Make Players Drink

We can only imagine what`s its like to be fully suited up in football gear while the mercury continues to climb. Still, we decided to get a first-hand account from Sylvan Hills High School Defensive Tackle Brison Manor. "It`s not comfortable," Manor says. "But it`s alright. We`ve been out here a long time so I`m pretty much used to it by now." but it`s that comfort level that could be dangerous if they players aren`t reminded to drink up. That`s not the case here. "They take care of us" says Wes Phillips, a center on the team." They give us plenty of water and make sure we`re not overheated. For nearly two hours, players practiced their punts and blocks in hot sun. Then it was off to the lockers for some much- needed water before returning to the field. Head Coach Ron Sebastian says water is just one part of regulating body temperature."You risk being overheated when you first start practicing if you haven`t conditioned yourself," Sebastian says. With sebastion keeping a close watch on these players, brison is able to focus on the upcoming season. "We plan on winning this year," Manor says. Players are advised to drink water throughout the day, not just during practice. --Filed by Dave Jordan
