Families living with multiple myeloma took a break from their worries today, for a little fun.
The Myeloma Institute at UAMS held an appreciation day for patients and their families during Multiple Myeloma Awareness Week.
The day included performance showcasing the hidden song and dance talents of the institute`s employees.
When Joe Downing was first diagnosed with the disease he says he and his wife didn`t understand what it meant.
They say is important to help more people understand what they did not.
"They don`t understand that at this point, there is no cure for the disease. They don`t understand the ramifications of the disease," Downing said.
Multiple Myeloma is a rare blood-related disease that affects multiple body systems.
About 15-thousand new cases are diagnosed every year, and more than 50-thousand Americans currently live with it.
