More Americans File for First-time Unemployment

By: Newsroom Solutions
Updated: May 26, 2011
For the first time in two weeks, more people are applying for first-time unemployment benefits.

Today's report from the Labor Department shows 424-thousand initial jobless claims were filed in the week ending May 21st.

That's an increase of ten-thousand claims from the previous week, when 414-thousand people sought unemployment benefits for the first time.

The disappointing news comes after many analysts predicted first-time filings for jobless benefits would fall close to the key 400-thousand mark that signals economic growth.
