Bird In Pulaski County Has West Nile

West Nile virus has been found in a bird in Pulaski County. That`s the announcement today from the state Health Department. That brings to 14 the number of counties where the virus has been reported this year. The department announced a human case in Jefferson County yesterday, the first this year in Arkansas. Earlier, birds tested positive for the virus in Arkansas, Benton, Clark, Cleburne, Crawford, Hot Spring, Jefferson, Little River, Mississippi, Sebastian, and Union counties. Horses also have tested positive in Logan and Sebastian counties, and a positive mosquito pool was reported in Greene County. Last year, the state had 43 confirmed human cases, resulting in five deaths.
