Jefferson County Voters Go To The Polls Tuesday

The future of a planned new, 300-bed jail is on the line when voters in Jefferson County go to the polls
tomorrow. It will be the second special election this year involving proposals to use sales tax revenues to pay for a jail.
In May, voters narrowly rejected a half-cent sales tax increase to fund a new jail. Tuesday, a pair of quarter-cent sales taxes will be on the ballot, for the same purpose. One of the proposals on the ballot would be temporary, ending after it pays off
10.9 million dollars in construction bonds. The other would be permanent, to fund the maintenance and daily operations of the jail.
