401(k) Savings on the Upswing

By: Newsroom Solutions
Updated: May 12, 2011
A significant upswing is being noted in 401(k) plans.

Fidelity Investments says the plans are becoming healthier with balances reaching a 12-year high.

The average balance climbed to 74-thousand-900 dollars at the end of the first quarter.

That's a 12-percent increase from last year and an indication of market gains.

Fidelity's Beth McHugh also notes people have increased their contributions by three-and-a-half percent in the first quarter.

However, despite the boost in 401(k) savings, retirement distress still lingers.
