December 2010 Shooting Death of Man by LR Police Ruled Justified

Nearly five months after a Little Rock man was shot to death outside his apartment by police, their use of deadly force has been ruled justified.

Pulaski County Prosecutor Larry Jegley revealed his decision in the Eugene Ellison case this morning.

Ellison, 67, was the father of one Little Rock Police officer who just left the force at the time of the shooting, and another who was still employed by the department.

Ellison was shot when officers Donna Lesher and Tabitha McCrillis, who were working an off-duty patrol assignment at the Big Country Chateau Apartments at 6200 Colonel Glenn Road, stepped through the open door of his apartment and he allegedly attacked them.

One month after Ellison's killing, his family hired a law firm known for handling cases of alleged police misconduct. The Ellison's also asked for help from the governor's office and the FBI in investigating a possible civil rights violation when police entered the apartment uninvited.

The Little Rock Police Department's Internal Affairs Division is still investigating the incident.
