KARK 4 Makes Transition to HD News

By: KARK 4 News
Updated: April 20, 2011
KARK-TV announced today that it will begin broadcasting news in high definition on Wednesday April 20, 2011 during its 5pm newscast.

Along with a new set, built to provide over a dozen presentation areas, KARK 4 News will utilize the latest technology available, with a custom-made, high definition graphics package, the most state of the art weather presentation in the market, and a new logo design.

Nexstar Broadcasting Senior VP and KARK 4 General Manager Rick Rogala said, “The new look, set and graphics are certainly all visually compelling and will help to take our news product to the next level. That said, we understand that nothing is more important than the content we provide our viewers. We understand that our viewers, web, and mobile users count on us for our in-depth and investigative reporting. They count on us to be their weather authority, and they count on us to hold the powerful accountable.”Rogala added, “We made this investment because our media properties are invested in this community long-term and continuously seek out ways to improve our product and provide the best looking and most informative product we can.”

News Director Rob Heverling said, “The way we cover news and weather will remain consistent and loyal to our brand. The difference now is that we have more opportunities to showcase our content and our great talent with the best technology available.”

KARK Creative Services Director Phil Wrobel added, “From a marketing perspective this is a tremendous opportunity for us. As of now, the new set and graphics are completely unique. There is no other station with the same look or set design. We hope this will further differentiate our product from our competitors and stand out in the minds of our viewers as well.”

The HD transition will not only enhance the news viewing experience on traditional television, but will also expand into web and mobile. The versatile news set will enable producers to add and showcase more viewer submitted content, giving KARK 4 News an instant connection to the viewer across all platforms any time of the day.
