The shop offers a lot more than donuts. It's almost an addiction to some, the daily trip to Krispy Kreme for one or a dozen of the warm donut morsels, just minutes out of the fryer, freshly glazed, chocolate-coated, or creme-filled.
Manager Bobby Sims is the man who makes the shop run smoothly, especially when the police raid the shop once a year.
"It's something that we've taken a passion here in Aarkansas to do it, and we've raised a lot of money in a short Krispy Kreme donuts amount of time," says Sims.
"Y'know, we've been holding "Cops on Top of the Donut Shops" fundraiser, probably had it about five times. We missed one year, but during this past five years they have gone above and beyond to help law enforcement raise money for Special Olympics," says North Little Rock Police Department Spokesman Sgt. Terry Kuykendall.
"I think it was about 12-thousand dollars. People would come by and make a donation to Special Olympics, get free donuts, get a t-shirt, it's just a great event, and we've done it every year since then," says Shelly Yielding with Arkansas Special Olympics.
"Our customers are very generous as well. They come in and they donate money to Special Olympics and we give them a premium," Sims says.
Those warm donuts are never better received than on a winter morning when law enforcement officers lead hardy volunteers into an icy lake at another Special Olympics fundraiser.
"When we have our Polar Bear Plunge, Bobby's there. He's there plunging into the water with us and he always brings us coffee and you know we're cops, so we have to have donuts there for breakfast," Sgt. Kuykendall says.
"It's a good time, it's for a good cause. If you give for the right reason it's gonna come back to you. You know you don't give for something to come back to you, but giving, it'll always come back to you," says Sims.
