A new study has revealed the "secret ingredient" in religion that makes people happier.

Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison say it's the friendships developed through attending religious services.

The study, called "Religion, Social Networks, and Life Satisfaction," is published in the December issue of the "American Sociological Review."
